Image Processing is a method to perform some operations on an image, in order to extract from useful information from it. It is a type of signal processing in which the input is an image and the output will be characteristics/features associated with that image.
As a computer-based technology, Image processing carries out automatic processing, manipulation and interpretation of such visual information using machine learning models, and it plays a very important role in a wide variety of disciplines and fields in science and technology, with applications such as robotics, remote sensing, feature extraction, forecasting, optical character recognition, medical diagnosis and industrial inspection.
One example of an Implementation of IoT (Internet of Things) and Image processing is in the field of Packaging. Conveyer belts, as part of the assembly line can be integrated with IOT enabled cameras to capture real time images of products which will then be processed to identify defective products / produce to automate the Quality control process.
Image processing can also be enhanced to convert analog data to digital.Images of analogue meters / readings can be passed as inputs to digitise legacy machines in a cost effective manner.
